2011 Dallas Parks Summit - "Moving the System Forward"


Presenting Sponsor - Dallas Parks Foundation - and Host Sponsor - Dallas Park and Recreation Department - invite you to attend the 2011 Dallas Parks Summit, "Moving the System Forward" on Saturday, November 5, 2011. The 2nd annual citizens summit is an interactive morning featuring educational sessions, informative speakers and networking opportunities addressing the importance of parks and recreation programs and services in Dallas. Topics include the 2012 Capital Bond Program, Aquatics Master Plan, Dallas Park Trail System, the Dallas Bicycle Plan and more! Summit participants may choose one educational session per 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. time slots. Dallas author and historian Willis Winters will conduct a tram tour of historic Fair Park following the Summit.

Presenter: Michael Meadows, President & C.E.O., Dallas Zoological Society. Advocacy is a powerful tool in garnering support for park and recreation programs and facilities. This session will detail the importance of developing your role as an advocate and offer strategies for success.

10 a.m. Session: "VOLUNTEER INVOLVEMENT IN PARKS AND RECREATION"
Presenter: Tabitha Ford, Municipal Service Coordinator, Volunteer Center of North Texas. Participants will learn how to use websites to sign up for/recruit volunteers for park needs and discuss volunteer management strategies for volunteer retention.

10 a.m. Session: "HAPPY TRAILS TO YOU!"
Presenters: Sally Rodriguez & Jared White, Project Coordinators, Dallas Park and Recreation Department. "Happy Trails to You! - Developing Dallas' Trail Awareness Campaign" summarizes Dallas' trail safety and marketing program, giving attendees insight into how a large municipality addresses trail development, marketing and safety.

Presenters: Jill Beam, Events and Reservations Manager, and Steven Flores, Fair Park Sales Manager, Dallas Park and Recreaton Department. "Passport to Dallas Park Facilities" is an overview of Park Department rental and special attractions facilities available to accommodate fundraisers, special events or meetings of all sizes.. Special emphasis will be placed on matching special events with the appropriate sites.

Presenter: Gary Sanchez, Council Assistant District 1. Graffiti Abatement in the Parks. This session will examine the social, economic and environmental effects of graffiti and its impact on neighborhoods and businesses. Learn how you can help combat graffiti in your neighborhood and what what resources are available.

10 a.m. Session: " 2012 CAPITAL BOND PROGRAM and the DALLAS PARKS FOUNDATION"
Presenters: Willis Winters, Assistant Director, Planning, Design, Construction and Facility Services, Dallas Park and Recreation Department, and Samuel Stiles, Development Officer, Dallas Parks Foundation. The City of Dallas is in the preliminary stages in the development of the 2012 Capital Bond Program. Staff will discuss the process for the development of the bond program and how you can advocate for your park and neighborhood. Dallas Parks Foundation staff will add to the discussion by explaining the relationship of the foundation to the bond program and how your organization can work with the foundation to benefit your parks.

"2011 Dallas Bike Plan: Shared/Multi-Use Path Facilities" will provide an overview of the 2011 Dallas Bike Plan with focus on the off-street elements of the planned envisioned Dallas Bikeway System.

1:30 p.m.: HISTORIC FAIR PARK TOUR with WILLIS WINTERS
Fair Park historian and award-winning author and architect Willis Winters will guide you via tram through the 277-acre Fair Park, home to the largest collection of art deco buildings, art and sculptures. The tour will feature a narrated description of the park's historic murals and architecture.
